I spent three life-changing months in Cape Town back in 2018. It completely changed my view on the way we consume tap water at home. "Day Zero", the day where all taps in Cape Town would run dry tremendously affected the way we used and saved water during those three months.
2-minute showers, public showers closed, no flushing when you pee, getting drinking water from the municipal taps, collecting 'grey water' to water plants... The list goes on.
Back in Switzerland three years later: it's time for my Bachelor's thesis. The theme imposed by the school is opulence. This was it. My opportunity to talk about our opulent water consumption in the water-rich West. Maybe not everyone needs to face extreme drought in Africa before realising that they don't need to use as much water as they do right now.

So, what's this "Tap" thing about?
Tap is a brand and product I designed. The idea would be to attach small Tap rings that monitor your consumption of water. It displays your current consumption, and communicates wirelessly to an app on your smart phone which lets you keep track of it all. Similar to the fitness apps we know today, Tap also lets you connect with your community so you can motivate each other and reach goals together.
